Oh no, not again heet het nieuwe Bunbun-album van Matt Baay en dit keer heeft hij ook zijn stripmaakvrienden ingeschakeld om een bijdrage te leveren. Maaike Hartjes, Paul Stellingwerf, Frodo De Decker, Rob van Barneveld, Boris Peeters, Aleks Deurloo, Sam Peeters, Jeroen Funke, Ruben Steeman en Aimée de Jongh tonen ieder hun eigen interpretatie van het witte konijn dat al zo negen jaar de pagina's van strippend Nederland onveilig maakt.

Het is leuk om te zien hoe andere stripmakers omgaan met de terugkerende thema's die het Bunbun-universum uitmaken: de zucht naar wortels, seks en grote pikken. Baay heeft er een handje van om eindeloos te variëren op deze thema's. Zo nu en dan mixt hij er een sprookjes- of filmparodie doorheen. Soms doet hij dat door een visuele grap en een knipoog naar het medium, maar dikwijls doet hij dat ook lekker plat.

Bunbun blijkt ook zijn eigen gasttekenaar.

Objectief kan ik niet over Bunbun oordelen, daarvoor ken ik de geestelijk vader en het konijn te goed. Ik ben al jaren fan van de strip. Toen ik redacteur was van de site IntermediairForward, een plek waar starters op de arbeidsmarkt terecht konden voor informatie over solliciteren en vacatures, wilde ik de site aantrekkelijk maken door ook iets met strips te doen. Ik heb toen Baay gevraagd om een reeks animaties te maken over Bunbun in een arbeidssituatie. Op een speelse manier konden we zo sollicitatietips kwijt. Bunbun vond het prima om te doen alsof hij solliciteerde, zolang het honorarium maar uit een flinke berg wortels en enkele bereidwillige groupies bestond. Verder niets te klagen over deze acteur.

Ravijn
Al snel schreven Matt en ik de serie samen. Met plezier denk ik terug aan onze plotsessies, die vaak plaatsvonden in een Utrechts restaurant. 'Kunnen we niet een bus vol met marketeers een ravijn in laten rijden?' vroeg ik Matt. Dat leek me wel passend aangezien marketeers mij het leven erg zuur maakten indertijd. 'Natuurlijk kan dat!' zei Matt opgewekt. En zo bedachten we dan een verhaaltje rondom deze scène dat ook nog eens Intermediair genoeg was om op de site gepubliceerd te worden.

Ik ben wat dat betreft Hille van der Kaa, die toen chef online was bij Intermediair, nog steeds dankbaar dat ook zij de humor van Baays konijn inzag.

Maar goed, ancient history.

Oh no, not again? Jazeker wel. Van Bunbun krijg ik nooit genoeg.
